About Vector Photonics

Vector Photonics designs and develops surface emitting, semiconductor lasers, including PCSELs (Photonic Crystal Surface-Emitting Lasers) – the most significant innovation in laser design and manufacture for 30 years. The company is a spin-out from the University of Glasgow; one of the UK and world’s optical and photonics centres of excellence. We have received a £4.1m equity investment, alongside government funding of £5.7m, taking its total seed funding for commercialising the technology to over £9.8m.

Surface emitting lasers beam light from their top surface. This makes them easy to package and incorporate into PCBs and electronic assemblies, for the many domestic and industrial applications they benefit. They can be made using established, semiconductor foundries and existing supply chains. In addition to this, PCSELs are low cost, robust, have a broad wavelength range and high power – a unique combination of key characteristics which give them a huge advantage over all incumbent, semiconductor, laser technologies.

Vector Photonics has a highly experienced staff team, both technically and commercially, including expertise in business startups and scaling. We have an extensive IP portfolio, with worldwide, patent protection.
