Dr. Richard Taylor, Chief Technical Officer at Vector Photonics, is a guest speaker at the inaugural Scottish Conference in Optical Technologies (SCOT), held at St Andrews, 22 to 24 April. Vector Photonics is a gold sponsor of the SCOT conference, which is a student-led event, supporting both its job fair and event dinner. SCOT will showcase Scotland’s world-leading, optics and photonics capability across the Universities of St Andrews, Strathclyde, Glasgow, Dundee and Heriot Watt. The conference comprises keynote addresses, presentation sessions, posters and industrial sessions covering all aspects of optics, photonics, sensing, quantum information, quantum computing, laser design and structured light.

Richard said, “It’s a great honour to be speaking at SCOT and sponsoring the event. My presentation, ‘PCSELs: The 2D Laser Commercialisation Journey’, covers the development and commercialisation of all-semiconductor PCSEL technology; an innovation in laser design and manufacture. Vector Photonics Ltd. was formed to expedite this commercialisation and is a spin-out from the University of Glasgow. Part of my message to students is that great engineering and technology ideas can be developed into exciting, new businesses. These can leverage Scotland’s world-leading, optical capability, highlighted by SCOT, which already successfully attracts government funding and equity investment for new businesses and high-value-add job creation.”
