Initial tests demonstrate that Vector Photonics’ PCSELs will deliver faster speeds than any equivalent lasers.

Dr. David Childs, Director of Product Development at Vector Photonics, is a guest presenter at the Compound Semiconductor International Virtual Conference on 12th April, 2021.

David will present his Paper on the first speed measurement of a PCSEL (Photonic Crystal Surface Emitting Laser), clearly demonstrating that the PCSEL’s speed aligns with the company’s device modelling. These results verify that Vector Photonics PCSEL technology is capable of significantly faster speeds than equivalent VCSEL or EEL’s. He goes on to conclude that a PCSEL, with a smaller area and optimised for speed, has the potential to be over two times faster than a VCSEL equivalent and three times faster than a DFB laser equivalent.

David’s presentation is timetabled for 12.55 to 13.10 at the CS Conference, with registration available on the link: https://onlinesummit.angel-tech.net/

Dr. David Childs is co-inventor of the Vector Photonic’s PCSEL technology. He has taken up his role as Director of Product Development at Vector Photonics today. Prior to that, David was Developing Laser Research at the University of Glasgow, in the Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering division of the James Watt School of Engineering. His industrial experience also includes commercial laser development at Marconi Optical Components.
